A porch fire lapped at a Crown View Lane home Monday afternoon, but never got inside, Bernardsville Fire Company spokesman Randy Steinkopf said. The fire began shortly after 4 p.m. in some materials being used to refinish the porch, Steinkopf said. The porch ignited and when firefighters arrived a few minutes later, the heat of the blaze cracked windows on the home's lower level. "In a couple more minutes, it could have gone inside," Steinkopf said. Bernardsville, Mendham Borough and Liberty Corner fire companies and Bernardsville Rescue Squad responded, he said. |
